Implementation of the current Postal Code system in Argentina began in 1998 and is a complement to the old system with 4-digit Postal Codes. Although it is a new and more efficient system, the two systems continue to coexist to this day. The CPA expands the postal code information, incorporating 4 letters that identify each side of the square in towns with more than 500 inhabitants. Towns with less than 500 inhabitants have a single CPA.
